Johnny Baghdad’s is a lovely spot in the corner of Masham village square. The café (formally Suncatcher’s) has a cool and funky middle eastern vibe, reflected in the specials menu, with falafel, spicy chicken, kofte and flat breads all available.
The staff are friendly and helpful, bringing every rider a glass of water as you sit down and upon arrival you have the option of enjoying the eclectic and interesting interior or sitting outside watching village life. There’s a lot of options on the menu for both food and drinks and as this particular visit was 60 miles into our ride a few of us opted to go big and order the Tripler (bacon, egg and sausage) and the BBQ pulled pork butty and we were not disappointed. We then washed this down with a few pots of Yorkshire Tea and various coffees along with walnut cake and lemon cake, all of which were as fantastic as they sound!
Masham was visited by the Tour de France in 2014, so the café can be tagged on when riding all or part of the stage one route. Another option would be to start your ride from Masham and head into the Yorkshire Dales, where there are some cracking routes and quiet roads all within reach for all abilities of rider.
