Farm shops often make for fantastic cycling cafes without even trying to cater for cyclists. Roots Farm shop however has gone above and beyond! There is just about everything you need here…a farm shop, an indoor café area, an outdoor café area, a coffee shack (if you prefer a cosy vibe), bike stands, and some very friendly livestock (in case you are an animal person!). There’s also a huge car park so it’s another great place to drive to (perhaps if your not from the area).
The food (as you would expect from a farm shop) is of an extremely high quality. Everything (even the pulled harm open sandwich and full English breakfast) tastes healthy – which has got to be something to do with the quality of the produce.
In terms of local roads you can’t go wrong – especially if you like rolling flat lanes. There’s no point us suggesting a specific route here – because the roads are equally brilliant in every direction. If you do want something special – you are not far away from the North York Moors. The best way to get there is probably via Hutton Rugby, Swainby, or Osmotherly. Our favorite section of challenging road is probably the climb up from Osmotherly to what’s known locally as sheepwash followed by the sketchy descent into Swainby.

Swainby to Osmotherly – This is a fantastic up and down in either direction.
