Sophie’s is an absolute gem of a café and after our first visit it quickly became one of our favourites. Set in the beautiful small village of Hampsthwaite on the outskirts of Harrogate, Sophie’s is the perfect location for hungry cyclists, with room to sit inside on a winters day and a large garden at the back for the summer, where there’s plenty of room to park bikes.
The food comes highly recommended, with a range of home-made produce including quiches, bruschetta, breads, pies, scones, plus an array of cake and ice-cream. There is also an assortment of sandwiches which are ideal if you’re on a long ride and on the last Café Hero visit we went for the all day breakfast, which did not disappoint!
In terms of drinks, there’s a vast array on offer with Cappuccinos, Espressos, Flat White, Lattes and a variety of teas. There are also plenty of cold drinks including smoothies, milkshakes and Frappuccinos!
In our opinion, the best route into Hampsthwaite is from Menwith Hill Road and Back Road, before turning off onto New Road and into Hampsthwaite. The route is a long descent with beautiful winding roads that just beg to be ridden.
Overall, Sophie’s is a modern yet homely café and a great place for a mid-ride stop. You will always receive a warm welcome from the staff and from Sophie, who herself is a mad keen cyclist.
